Why Do We Fundraise for Politicians?

By Elisha N. Hawk, Chair, MAJ New Lawyers Section

Dear Fellow New Lawyers,

I know that as new lawyers, we are not the ones with our names on the door (most of the time).  Many of us are associates at small or mid-sized firms.  Hopefully, we are taking advantage of the educational programs, mentoring, and networking opportunities that MAJ offers - and offers better than any other organization, in my humble opinion.   At the very least, hopefully we are all participating on the list serves.  If you haven't posted your own questions yet, I imagine you've learned something from someone else's.  So, here's a question for you - are you participating in advocacy?

MAJ's mission is to improve the civil justice system through legislative advocacy and the professional development of attorneys who represent the injured.  Do you understand why that is so important?  Better yet, do you know why it's important for you, as new lawyers, to be involved at whatever level you can?  If not, would you be interested in coming to a breakfast to learn about this stuff and ways you can make a difference?  Please let me know and we will make that happen!

Yesterday, I sent an invitation from Bruce Plaxen for a fundraiser for Anthony Brown.  Any New Lawyer can attend for just $100.  Please take advantage of this opportunity. To learn more, contact me.

  1. Great article, thank you for sharing. I've found this article very interesting. I've recently discovered Tony Charalambides fundraising blog - he has some great articles, you should check it out.
