MAJ is seeking members interested in the leadership positions of either the Parliamentarian or Board of Governors. MAJ deserves the "best and brightest" to help our members and our association, and we know that there is a tremendous amount of experience and talent that exists within our membership.
Officer - Parliamentarian
Per MAJ's Bylaws, Article IX Section 2.6, the Parliamentarian's duties include the following:
- Advises the presiding officer on questions of parliamentary procedures in accordance with Robert's Rules of Order.
- Performs such other and further duties as delegated by the president.
- Ensures members have the opportunity to be heard and present their views for consideration.
- Serves as de facto chair or vice chair of the Sponsorship Committee.
- Participation in the 2014 Leadership Summit (aimed at briefing new and experienced leaders)
- Attendance at all or most Board of Governor meetings each year (at least 8 per year)
- Active involvement in one or more MAJ committees
- Membership in the MAJ President's Club
- Participation in MAJ Fundraising/Membership Recruitment efforts
- Active support of all MAJ meetings and events
Board of Governors
Currently there are several board positions available, some of which may be a one or two-year term.
The Board of Governors has full power and authority to perform all acts and functions on behalf of the membership during the period between general and special membership meetings.
Qualifications for All Leadership Positions:
Elected officer and governors must be members of the Association at the time of nomination and election and must remain active members in good standing during their term of office.

Nominations Process:
The slate of candidates for President-elect, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, Board of Governors, AAJ Representatives, AAJ State Delegates and AAJ Minority Caucus Delegate will be selected by the Nominations Committee. Following the nominations process, MAJ members vote to accept these individuals at the Annual Membership Meeting, on April 23, 2014 at the Hotel Monaco in downtown Baltimore.
MAJ potential leaders are asked to submit a Letter of Interest and a brief CV to the Executive Director, David Walls, at david@marylandassociationforjustice.com by close of business December 13, 2013. In advance, thank you for your interest in serving.
