On May 4, 2013, the
Maryland Association for Justice, Inc. (MAJ) gathered at the Great Room in
Historic Savage Mill to celebrate the association’s 60th Annual
President’s Dinner, welcoming new leadership and honoring excellence in the
legal community.
The highlight of the evening’s
events was the transition of our leadership; outgoing President George S. Tolley, III passed the
“Bronze Bell of Justice,” a symbol of the association, to incoming President
Lawrence S. Greenberg.
Following his installation as
President, Mr. Greenberg welcomed the other newest MAJ officers:
President-Elect David M. Kopstein of Kopstein & Associates, LLC in
Seabrook; Vice President David V. Diggs of Kahn, Smith & Collins, PA in
Baltimore; Secretary Philip C. Federico of Schochor, Federico & Staton, PA
in Baltimore; Treasurer Sloane L. Fish of Law Offices of Sloane L. Fish, LLC in
Towson and Parliamentarian Thomas G. Yost, Jr. of The Yost Legal Group, LLC in
Baltimore.
Mr. Greenberg received his B.A.
from Boston University and his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of
Law. His practice at Greenberg Law Offices in Baltimore City focuses on
representing individuals who are seriously injured through the negligence of
others. Mr. Greenberg also represents individuals accused of serious crimes and
traffic offenses. Mr. Greenberg previously served on MAJ’s Board of Governors
where he served as chair of the Education and Programs, Sponsorship, Membership
Committees, as well as the Criminal Law Section. Mr. Greenberg is a Captain and Legal Officer
JAG of the Maryland Defense Force where he provides legal support for the
Maryland Army National Guard and the Maryland Air National Guard. In addition to MAJ, Mr. Greenberg is a member
of the American Association for Justice, Maryland State Bar Association, Bar
Association of Baltimore City and the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys’
Association.
Also recognized during the
evening’s festivities were award winners for Trial Lawyer of the Year and the
Simon K. Walton Civil Justice Award.
H. Briggs Bedigian, Gilman &Bedigian, LLC, and Gary A. Wais, Wais, Vogelstein & Arfaa, LLC, were named
the 2013 Trial Lawyers of the Year for their courageous work and
ground-breaking verdicts in Martinez v.
The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Norfleet
v. Medstar Harbor Hospital, helping malpractice victims in Maryland to
receive justice and fair compensation.
Baltimore law firm Schochor,Federico & Staton, PA was honored with the Simon K. Walton Civil Justice Award
for their tireless fight for victims of abuse in Jane Doe 30 v. Bradley and their continued dedication to community
service and philanthropy.
The evening’s special guest
speaker was Maryland’s Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler.
