Meet our New Lobbying Team

The 2015 Legislative Session is fast approaching, and MAJ's advocacy efforts are already underway. We would like to let you know about an exciting change:

New MAJ Lobbying Team: Alexander & Cleaver
This summer, the Board of Governors engaged the services of Alexander & Cleaver to lobby on behalf of the citizens of Maryland and MAJ members. The firm has been a consistent presence in Annapolis for the past 30 years, working closely with both political parties and all legislative and executive branch officials. Alexander & Cleaver's team working on behalf of MAJ consists of three attorneys who bring a myriad of experiences to the table.

Robert J. Garagiola, Esq.
As the head of the government relations division of Alexander & Cleaver, Rob draws on his over 20 years of legal, legislative, and advocacy experience. As a state senator, Rob served as Senate Majority Leader and as a senior member of the Senate leadership team. He was noted for his ability to build strong and lasting relationships with members of both parties in the House, Senate, and Executive Branch. Rob attended the George Washington Law School and is a practicing attorney.

Lorenzo M. Bellamy, Esq.
Lorenzo joined Alexander & Cleaver in 2006. Lorenzo works with clients on both legislative matters and procurement, regulatory, and administrative issues. He has strong relationships and a long track record that helps him successfully advocate for his clients. He hails from Baltimore City and spends much of his time representing our clients on government relations issues before the Mayor, City Council, and agencies of Baltimore City. Prior to joining Alexander & Cleaver, Lorenzo served as Counsel for Legislative affairs at the Maryland Office of the Public Defender.

Camille G. Fesche, Esq.
Camille works with clients on implementing strategies, researching issues, and advocating before the legislature. She caught the political bug in college as a congressional intern for then Congressman Bob Ehrlich.  After college, she worked on New York City's Mayor Michael Bloomberg's first campaign and later in his administration building his 3-1-1 non-emergency number. Camille attended the Georgetown University Law Center and is a practicing attorney.

Frank D. Boston, III
To round off this powerful team, MAJ continues to engage the services of
Frank D. Boston, III, who has lobbied on behalf of MAJ's issues for many years.Frank has more than 18 years experience representing individuals and small and large companies in the Maryland legislature and in courts throughout the state. He received his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he was a recipient of the James May Scholarship, the Chief Justice of the law school's honor court, a member of the Moot Court Board, teacher's assistant, and an American Jurisprudence awardee. Frank will continue to support MAJ's issues this legislative session and will work in tandem with the Alexander & Cleaver team.

Our IssuesAnnapolis
MAJ's Legislative Committee and leadership has been working with our lobbyists to educate them on our issues, the opposition, and the history of MAJ's priority legislation. In preparation for session, meetings have already been scheduled with elected officials in order to build a base for punitive damages for high-risk drunk drivers and auto insurance stacking. In addition, the team is working with the legislative leadership on raising caps on non-economic damages for death and catastrophic injuries and hammering out language for the statutory employer bill. Finally, the team has been studying the bills introduced in previous sessions that would have affected MAJ in order to shore up our defensive strategy for protecting against the erosion of rights of injured Marylanders.
